Majel Connery: solo Technical rider

As a solo act, I customize appearances and can offer a professional concert, an artist talk or a combination of both, depending on the venue and the audience. For schools, I often incorporate selections from my environmental song cycles, and speak about my creative process as an electronic artist. I have given artist talks and lecture-demonstrations at World Forestry Center, Wave Hill Arboretum, Reed College, University of Iowa, Cornish College for the Arts, BAMPFA (Berkeley), University of Oregon, Carnegie Library, Carnegie Mellon, Duquesne University, UNM Art Museum, Reno Museum of Art, and a variety of classrooms throughout the country. Music portion can involve:

RIVERS ARE OUR BROTHERS : a 25-minute acoustic-electronic song cycle on ecological responsibility told from the perspective of the land.

ELDERFLORA : a 30-min song cycle on the life of a tree, told from the tree’s perspective. Can involve accompanying journals/lyrics for the audience.

Bio:

Majel Connery is a composer, performer, and musicologist. Her voice has been called “superb” by the New York Times and her music “thoroughly Schubertian” by the Wall Street Journal. She has appeared on Radiolab, Kennedy Center Live, and New Sounds radio. Connery is the host and producer of A Music of Their Own, an interview podcast on women in music on NPR. She has taught at UC Berkeley, Stanford, Wellesley and Princeton, and is an affiliate artist with Decoda, teaching songwriting in prisons. She lives in Santa Fe and is on the music faculty at UNM Albuquerque. Connery holds a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Chicago.

 Technical requirements:

1-hour load in/soundcheck. I appreciate parking passes where possible, access to a green room, water and meals.

Mix notes:

Big goddess vocals on top. Everything else underneath. A bit of compression on the voice goes a long way, as I have extreme dynamic range.
